THE CREATION OF TRUFFLE LODGE

In 2003 we purchased the exquisite The Woodbridge Tasmania. She was derelict and we spent 3 years restoring her (with the help from a team of great local craftsmen). The Woodbridge won the 2005 HIA Tasmanian Restoration of the Year and then the 2006 HIA Australian title.

The Woodbridge became Tasmania’s first member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World and continues to operate as boutique accommodation. www.woodbridgenn.com.au

Then in 2007 we purchased this amazing tract of land just 15 minutes up the road, on the bend of the Derwent River at Gretna. Yes the Derwent Valley is spectacular and we saw no reason to mive further afield..

We set about creating Truffle Lodge, a top notch glamping property.

We celebrated the Bicentenary of The Woodbridge in 2025. It got John and I reflecting on the fact that we were approaching 80 ourselves.

John decided to retire entirely.

I decided that running The Woodbridge was enough.

We decided to close Truffle Lodge. Time to move on!

Truffle Lodge is no longer operating, so you cannot book it.

OUR MINDSETS

Creating Truffle Lodge was not just about canvas & ropes, hammers & nails. It was more about “What do we want this to be?” What do we want to creat?

For us, property development has always been more about how can we save this property, how can we create a beautiful property, how can we solve these problems? We love creatively solving problems and trying new ideas!
